1807 C-1 R1 PCGS graded AU55
1807 C-1 R1. PCGS graded AU-55. Boldly Double Struck. Choice glossy chocolate and olive brown. The only marks on an otherwise flawless piece are a rim nick above the T in UNITED and a light nick under the C in CENT. LDS, Manley state 3.0. This piece was struck two times. The initial impression was centered on the planchet but the struck coin failed to eject completely before it was struck a second time 85% off center to K-10.5 leaving strong impressions of the bust tip behind the head and equally bold impressions of S-OF-A at the opposing area left of the fraction. In addition, the new blank planchet was barely overlapping the obverse of this piece during the second strike and it created a tab impression 95% off center overlapping a small portion of the off-center strike. A dramatic mint error and a truly beautiful half cent. Very seldom do you find significant early half cent errors in a choice state of preservation. Our grade is VF35 choice. The PCGS label includes the Cohen variety and Carvin Goodridge provenance, and it mentions the double strike 90% off center with an indent error. (PCGS #35203).
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
