1807/6 1C Small 7 over 6 VF Details NCS. VF25 EAC. S-2 1807/6 1C Small 7 over 6 VF Details NCS. VF25 EAC. S-272, Die State I, Low R.5. When Sheldon published the second edition of his work, Penny Whimsy, in 1958, he recorded this as Rarity-6 with only 15 or 20 pieces known. Many more have been discovered since then, all in lower grades, with 50 to 75 now known. In high grades, this variety is just as rare today as it was nearly 50 years ago. As with many others, grades of the top coins in the census have diminished slightly. The two best recorded by Sheldon were 55 and 50, and by Bland as 50 and 45. Dr. Sheldon once said that ownership is worth five points, and apparently he took those points as he owned the finest example. This example, which qualifies as fourth finest known, has dark steel surfaces with some maroon patina. A few minor abrasions are noted on the obverse, with a few more on the reverse, and these are all consistent with the grade. Much like the Breen plate coin, the obverse exhibits axial misalignment, with the obverse border missing detail from 10 o'clock to 1 o'clock. The reverse is normally centered. The coin illustrated in Sheldon shows the obverse border lacking from 7 o'clock to 10 o'clock. NCS Improperly Cleaned.
Ex: Homer K. Downing (New Netherlands, 1952 ANA), lot 1973; K.P. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary. Lot:3330
