1807 50C Draped Bust MS62 PCGS. O-102,
1807<50C> Draped Bust MS62 PCGS. O-102, R.2. The variety is attributed by the left serif of the Y in LIBERTY that points well above the top of the T, a small lump (die chip) inside the upper loop of the 8, a leaf that points to the extreme right base of the I in AMERICA, and the eagle's beak being joined to a star point. In the 1990 Overton/Parsley book, the Condition Census of this variety was reported as 55, 55, 50, 45, 45; more recently, Stephen Herrman has noted the public auction appearance of five Mint State examples (65, 64, 63, 63, 63). Accordingly, this MS62 example just misses the lower end of the Condition Census. A delicate mauve-purple and reddish-orange patination overlies a nearly unbroken flow of soft luster. The design elements are generally well defined, except for some softness in the star centers on both sides and in the upper portions of Liberty's hair. A few wispy handling marks are noted on Liberty's cheek.
