1807 50C Draped Bust AU55 NGC. O-107a, High R.4. The latest state of obverse 4, with all of the die cracks advanced, and with die sinking that forms obverse bulges on the coin. Clearly this obverse was at the end of its serviceable life. The reverse die has cracks encircling much of the reverse, similar to O-106 but the cracks are in different locations.
Lightly abraded surfaces and reflective fields are visited by light champagne toning. Splashes of steel accompany the reverse highpoints.
This is a surprisingly elusive die combination, with less than 100 examples known. The Westmoreland County collection includes this Choice AU piece, apparently the finest known of the die marriage.
Overton-16, PCGS # 6079, Encyclopedia-4593.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
