1807 50C Draped Bust AU55 NGC. O-103a, R.3. The late die state of O-103 has a crack that curves down to the right from the border to the right top of F, continues through the wing and AMERICA, and then curves to the left to join the claw. The die crack that developed on the obverse during the O-102 marriage is prominent. Don Parsley suggests an interrupted die marriage of O-102 and O-103, stating that the obverse is "usually visible" for both varieties.
Nearly full frosty luster on both sides is accented by pale golden toning. The strike is blunt on the upper head details, and also at the central reverse. A few faint hairlines are visible.
This example ranks at the low end of the Census for O-103, but it appears to be tied for the finest late state piece.
Haseltine-4, Beistle 1A-b, Overton-8, 9, PCGS # 6079, Encyclopedia-4593.
Ex: Northeast Numismatics (6/2004).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
