The Bust Left of Liberty, wearing a cap and displaying a generous bosom, was introduced in 1807 on the half eagle and half dollar. Liberty's portrait was replaced on gold coinage in 1813, but Reich's eagle reverse on the half eagle lasted with only minor modifications until 1908. This well struck and satiny piece is attractive despite the expected minor abrasions. The reverse border near 5 and 11 o'clock displays a few light adjustment marks, as made. All pre-1834 gold coins are difficult types to collect. The pieces were struck for export purposes, and were valued strictly for their bullion content. Once overseas, the types were melted, in favor of gold coin of the realm.
