1807<$5> Bust Left MS62 ANACS. Breen-6453, B. 5-D, Miller-101, R.3. This variety is easily distinguished by the Capped Bust Left obverse combined with a reverse where the arrow feathers are directly over the left and right sides of the top of the 5. The I in PLURIBUS is directly under the upright of the E in STATES. John Reich's latent signature--a notch taken from underside of the outermost point of the rightmost, lowest star--is visible on this design, one of two (along with the half dollar) that he redesigned in 1807. Liberty's hair curl at the ear shows a light clash mark from a vertical shield stripe on the reverse, and some of the horizontal stripes are clashed into Liberty's tresses elsewhere. The beautiful surfaces are an attractive yellow-gold, with light chatter in the fields. A single dark toning spot is noted on the reverse on the O in OF.
From The Chief Paduke Collection.
