1807 25C AU55 PCGS. B-1, R.2. The reverse die of this variety is unique in the Draped Bust Quarter series as having only four berries in the olive branch. It was also used to deliver examples of the 1805 B-4 and 1806 B-1 varieties, such recycling of dies being common practice for the early Philadelphia Mint. Anyhow, this is an original survivor with dusky steel-gray toning gravitating toward the borders. Remnants of the original finish are evident at direct angles, as are blushes of delicate champagne accents. Both sides are uncommonly smooth for an early U.S. silver coin that saw light circulation, and the strike is pleasingly sharp in all areas save for those around the peripheries. A few clashmarks (as struck) are noted in the fields. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
