1807<$2 1/2> VF30 NGC. Bass-3016, Breen-6124, R.3. The low mintage (6,812 pieces) of this issue exemplifies the fact that the Quarter Eagle was not a favored denomination within early 19th century financial circles. The final year and most readily obtainable Quarter Eagle of the Capped Bust Right type. Taken within the context of this ultra-challenging, early series, the 1807 must still be considered a rare date since most of the original mintage succumbed to the mass meltings of the pre-1834 period. Offered here is an apricot-gold specimen with faded reddish color along the borders. The design elements retain good detail and are well centered on the planchet. A lengthy diagonal pinscratch traverses the obverse portrait, but by and large the surfaces are only lightly abraded.
