<B>1807<$2 1/2> AU58 NGC.</B></I> Bass-3016, Breen-6124, R.3. Only one die pair is known for the 1807, which has a recorded mintage of just 6,812 pieces. The obverse die is identified by a series of concentric die polish lines on Liberty's neck, while the reverse die is noteworthy for its versatility. It struck all 1805 through 1807 quarter eagles, and all 1807 dimes. This piece a pleasing amount of bright mint luster, and abrasions are surprisingly minimal for the grade. The centers have a typically soft strike, which particularly affects the star east of the eagle's head. Nonetheless, the quality is exceptional for an AU58 early quarter eagle. The final year of the type, which had been struck since the debut of the denomination in 1796.
