1807<1/2 C> C-1, B-1, R.1. Die State 3--Improperly Cleaned, NCS--AU Details. AU50 EAC. Tall, double punched 7; Five berries left, with stems. The date has the digit 7 double-punched, as always for this single variety of the year, although evidence of the repunching is quite weak in this late die state. Due to the relative size of the individual digits of the date, Walter Breen suggested that the digit 7 was from the same punch as the 1807/6 Large 7 Cent, Sheldon-273. This is almost certainly not the case, however, for the digit on the latter coin would have overlapped both the border and the drapery on this smaller diameter planchet. Lovely chestnut-brown surfaces with considerable olive color on the obverse. Light verdigris adheres to the surfaces around the devices, and appears to be completely removable with careful conservation.
Ex: Jim McGuigan; J.J.
