1806 50C Pointed 6, Stem VF35 NGC. O-122, R.7. The heavy die crack that nearly bisects the eagle's portrait is the most prominent characteristic of this rare variety. This is an undeniably original coin with a warm blanket of rose-gray toning throughout. The strike is well centered and the devices retain considerable definition for a coin that saw 25 points of wear. The scattered abrasions include a small scratch in the field behind the hair ribbon. In addition, curving mark is seen across the shield on the reverse. One of perhaps only a dozen examples known.
A VF30 example of the O-122 variety sold for $13,625 as lot 89 in Sheridan Downey's Mail Bid Sale 17 in May, 1996. Superior also offered a VF20 representative as lot 3123 in their June 1988 Blevins/Bodway Sale. That coin realized $6,875.
