1806 50C Pointed 6, Stem AU58 PCGS. O-125a, R.5. The obverse of O-125 has an elongated border segment between star 7 and L. This obverse was also used for O-109, suggesting the two varieties were coined at about the same time. In fact, O-125 was actually struck before O-109. The reverse has a die crack between O and F, with small die chips joining the crack and right side of the O. Most of the other cracks for O-125a are present.
This stunning near-Mint half dollar has fully prooflike fields on both sides, somewhat subdued by intense sea-green and violet-brown toning on both sides.
This is apparently the finest known example of the O-125 die marriage, regardless of die state. An AU50 and an XF45 are the second and third finest that we know of.
PCGS # 6071, Encyclopedia-4591.
Ex: Stack's (3/1998), lot 498.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
