1806 50C Pointed 6, Stem AU58 NGC. O-118a, R.3. Obverse 10 was used on six die marriages, and O-118 was the first. Reverse N is a single-use die, and from this advanced die state it is easy to see why. Multiple die cracks are seen across the reverse. The best description of these is in Overton, and all are present on this piece.
This is a high-end "super slider" coin that retains almost complete mint luster. The surfaces are bright and each side displays reddish-russet toning around the margins with hints of occasional blue. Well struck in all areas with no obvious or mentionable marks on either side.
O-118 is one of the few 1806 halves that is available in high grades, which suggests a hoard may have existed at one time. The Condition Census for the ‘a' sub-variety is 65/65, 64/64, 63/64, 63/63, 62/62.
Haseltine-7, Beistle 4a-Ha, Overton-34, PCGS # 6071, Encyclopedia-4591.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
