1806 50C Pointed 6, Stem AU58 NGC. O-115a, R.2. There is a fine line that separates this half as an ‘a' die state from an earlier ‘non-a' coin. What distinguishes this piece are the small lumps that have developed at the bottom of 06 in the date. The branching die cracks to the left of the date are not significantly further than they are on the early die state, and on the reverse the later-seen die crack at the top of STATES has not yet developed.
A brilliant coin, there is a significant presence of mint luster around the devices. Slightly soft on the forecurls of Liberty, the shoulder, and the eagle's head, as usually found. A few small field marks are scattered over each side and there is a shallow, oblong-shaped planchet void out of the obverse field next to star 2.
At the AU58 level, this piece is close to the lower reaches of the Condition Census for this die state.
Haseltine-15, Beistle 3B-Ea, Overton-30, PCGS # 39318, Encyclopedia-4591.
Ex: Northeast Numismatics (11/1999).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
