<B>1806 50C Pointed 6, No Stem AU58 NGC.</B></I> O-109a, R.3. A large number of O-109 halves are known in all grade ranges, several of which are Uncirculated and high-end AU. Because of the large number of coins produced from this die pairing, die cracks are common and many were struck from rusted dies. This piece is struck from the later ‘a' state of this die marriage. The obverse shows the signs of advanced die wear listed in Overton: heavy, horizontal die crack from star 12 to Liberty's neck, small lump broken out of the right base of 0 in the date, partial milling, and stars drawn to the edge. The reverse has most of the milling present with the "drawn" look at the top of the peripheral lettering. <BR> As with most AU58 early halves, this piece retains bright remnants of mint luster. The surfaces are covered with multiple layers of gray, rose, and sea-green toning. Well, but not fully struck, the highest portions of the design elements are silvery-gray from slight friction. <BR> While this later die state is scarcer than the regular 109, numerous Mint State and AU coins are known.
