1806 50C Knobbed 6, Large Stars AU55 PCGS
1806 50C Knobbed 6, Large Stars AU55 PCGS. O-105a, R.2. This Large Stars variety is easily attributed by the widely repunched T in LIBERTY. As if that does not make it distinctive enough, the reverse has six berries on the branch (the only 1806 so found), and there is a die scratch that joins the upper arrow shaft to the eagle's tail feathers.
The die crack that defines the ‘a' die state of O-105 begins in the date and extends through all the stars on the left to join the tops of LIB. But on this intermediate example it extends through the tops of all the letters and terminates at the top of star 8.
The surfaces retain almost complete mint luster. Each side is attractively toned in subtly intermingled shades of golden and lilac-gray. Softly defined at the top of Liberty's hair, as always, with weakness also noted in the center of the reverse stars.
One of the finest examples of this die state known, two other AU55 coins are recorded by Stephen Hermann.
Overton-11, PCGS #6074, Encyclopedia-4585.
Ex: Campbell.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
