1806 50C 6 Over Inverted 6 XF45 NGC
1806 50C 6 Over Inverted 6 XF45 NGC. O-111, R.3. Struck from the same reverse die as O-110, but a new obverse was used in this pairing and it lasted through three distinct die states. Obverse 7, as seen here, is alternately termed "1806 Over Inverted 6" (by Overton and PCGS) or more accurately termed " 1806/9" (by Breen and NGC).
This is the scarcer early die state and was described in the Jules Reiver catalog as "there is only a trace of the die crack above TED and the crack at UN. The obverse is lightly cracked through the digit 8. Orange and olive-green borders cede to cream-gray centers. Luster shimmers throughout the borders when the piece is rotated. Striking softness is generally limited to the bust tip and opposite near the right wingtip. A couple of old, light pin scratches above UNUM and near obverse star 12 are of little consequence. This is an excellent example of the variety, and may be approaching the Condition Census. The Eliasberg and Norweb coins are apparently the only ones known in Mint State grades."
In fact, this piece is listed on Stephen Herrman's Prices Realized listing as fourth finest for the early die state. The Eliasberg coin is finest at the 63/63 level, followed by 50/50, 50/50, 45/45 (this coin).
Haseltine-1, Beistle 2-B, Overton-21, PCGS # 39336, Encyclopedia-4590.
Ex: Mike Conroy (1/1988); Jules Reiver Collection (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 22554.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
