1806 50C 6 Over Inverted 6 VF20 PCGS
1806 50C 6 Over Inverted 6 VF20 PCGS. O-111b, R.3. Perhaps R.7 in this die state. Terminal state of this die pair. On the obverse only the upper and lower die cracks are immediately visible. The vertical crack through the figure of Liberty is only faintly seen because of the extensive wear in that area. However, its effects are easily visible. As a result of this crack, the left and right halves of this obverse die are on higher and lower planes with the left side better defined than the right side. This is seen even more dramatically on the O-112 pairing (and final use of Obverse 7). The reverse shows heavy die cuds over UN and TED. While the obverse die was paired with one more reverse before it was retired, no more coins could have been produced from the reverse die.
Even wear is seen over each side. The fields are light to medium gray with contrasting rose accents over the highpoints of the devices. Remarkably free from handling marks for a coin in this grade.
The ‘b' die state is not recorded in Stephen Herrman's listing of auction appearances. While the total number of coins in this die state is unknown, it is surely small. We estimate that no more than half a dozen may exist in all grades.
PCGS # 148730, Encyclopedia-4590.
Ex: Henry Hilgard (8/2004).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
