1806[$5] Round Top 6, 7x6 Stars MS62 NGC.Knobbed-6
1806<$5> Round Top 6, 7x6 Stars MS62 NGC.Knobbed-6 Breen-6448, B. 5-E, Miller-84, R.3. The only die marriage with a round top on the 6, but perhaps more importantly, it is also the only variety for the year with the stars arranged seven before and six after LIBERTY. This new star arrangement was used on all obverse dies of the denomination dated between 1807 and 1812. This is the most commonly encountered Heraldic Eagle five dollar variety, and as such is an excellent candidate for a type set. The example offered in this sale has attractive yellow-gold color and ample luster. The design elements are sharply struck, with Liberty's hair strands well delineated, save for a touch of softness beneath the ear. The eagle's wing, breast, and tail feathers are also sharp, although those on the neck and head are soft. Some weakness is also apparent where the eagle's right wing joins the upper left part of the shield. All of the dentilation shows, except that on the upper reverse border. The devices are nicely centered on the planchet, and the coin is free of the heavy adjustment marks commonly encountered on this variety. No significant abrasions plague the relatively well preserved surfaces.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
