1806/5 50C XF45 PCGS
1806/5 50C XF45 PCGS. O-104, R.4. This second overdate obverse is most easily distinguished from Obverse 1 by the positioning of stars 7, 8, and 13 relative to L, Y, and the end of the bust. The reverse has only four berries, contrasted to the five-berry reverse on Reverse A and six (but usually only five visible) on Reverse B. The reverse die crack at the tops of UNITE is significantly lighter, although still bold on this earlier die state, than seen on later states.
The surfaces have an overlay of smoky gray patina with deeper blue color around the margins. The cheek of Liberty has an arc of brilliance, presumably from a slight scrape in that area. Well struck on the obverse but significantly weaker details on the reverse.
Ex: Sheridan Downey, privately (2/1998)
Haseltine-3, Beistle 11-S, Overton-7, 8, PCGS # 6077, Encyclopedia-4582.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
