1806/5 50C AU58 NGC. O-101 prime, R.3 for the variety, but probably R.7 for the die state. This overdate 1806 half has an unusual die punching error with the 0 in the date punched over an earlier, mispunched horizontal 0. The Overton A reverse was only paired with this obverse, and is distinguished by recutting on the T in UNITED and the second T in STATES. An early die state, there are no traces of die cracks on either side.
The surfaces retain generous amounts of bright mint luster around the devices on each side. The surfaces are medium gray with lilac undertones, and the striking details are strong in the centers.
While a relatively common 1806 variety, only one Mint State piece apparently exists. This example is tied for second finest known.
Haseltine-4, Beistle 10-P, Overton-1, 2, PCGS# 6077, Encyclopedia-4583.
Ex: Sheridan Downey, privately (1/1998).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
