1806/5<50C> AU55 NGC. O-101, R.3. The year 1806 saw an enormous half dollar mintage of 839,576 pieces, from 12 different obverses and 21 reverses, for a total of 28 known Overton die marriages. The 1806 half dollar mintage was more than for the years 1794 through 1805 combined. This pairing has star 12 recut, and star 13 is joined to the bust. On the reverse there are five stemmed berries, the lowest one above the branch joined to the center leaf pair. While this piece shows the diagnostic die breaks around the obverse rim, the sometimes-seen break on the reverse through ITE is absent on this example. The attractive surfaces are silver-gray with gunmetal-gray highpoints. Much luster remains on this attractive piece that is probably near the low end of the Condition Census.
