1806/5<25C> MS63 PCGS. B-1, R.2. Dusky dove-gray, sea-green, and russet-brown colors embrace this impressive Draped Bust Quarter. Well struck for the type, which is difficult to find sharp, mostly due to Liberty's high relief shoulder. Only the top right reverse star exhibits significant softness. A tiny tick beneath the eye is mentioned for pedigree purposes, since no other blemishes are readily found. An obvious overdate, the lower half of the 5 is clear within the loop of the 6. The mint must have had problems with their letter punches in the first decade of the 19th century, since the I, T, and 1 punches each have a defective foot. Light clash marks (as made) are visible near Liberty's ear. Population: 3 in 63, 4 finer (10/05).
Ex: Ira & Larry Goldberg, 9/02, lot 290, which realized $20,125.
