1806<1C> S-270, B-1, R.1--Burnished--NCS. VF Details. VG10 EAC. Die State II. This single variety from the year was long considered scarce as a date, and Sheldon in Penny Whimsy, published in 1958, assigned it an R.2 ranking. But a more recent authority, Walter Breen's large cent Encyclopedia, published in 2000, assigns the date (and variety) an R.1 rating. The present glossy medium-brown specimen, with a darker reverse, has a die crack in the lowest curl faintly visible despite moderate wear, with wispy clash marks seen before the throat and near the hair ribbon. Despite the NCS designation, this coin is appealing and virtually mark-free, even under a glass.
Ex: George Ramont (3/4/1966). Envelope Included.
