1806<1/2 C> Small 6, Stems VF30 PCGS. B-1, C-2, R.4. Two different die varieties are known of this Small 6, Stems variety. The distinguishing feature is the position of the digit 6, either low in the field as here, or higher in the field with the upper point very close to the drapery. This scarce variety is important to a couple different classes of collectors, being of special interest to the variety collector, or to the Guide Book collector who is seeking one example of each coin listed in the popular reference.
Grayish-brown devices with intermingled chocolate and steel-brown color in the fields. Slight corrosion and verdigris is visible around the devices. Although the surfaces have their usual quota of small abrasions and marks, only a few minor scratches or other defects are noted. The specimen offered here is an intermediate die state example with light clash marks on the obverse, through the bases of RT in LIBERTY. In later states, a die crack develops through the digit 6, but no such feature is visible on this example. EAC 15.
