This is an important <I>Guide Book</B></I> variety, and it is also the second rarest die variety of the year. Two different Small 6, Stems die varieties are known, from the same reverse die. This obverse has the digit 6 in its normal position, and it is sometimes called the Small Low 6, Stems variety. The other variety, the Small High 6, Stems piece has the digit 6 high and nearly touching the drapery. Although light scratches are evident on the obverse, the surfaces are reflective and the reverse is exceptional. Superior's comments nearly 15 years ago are equally appropriate today: "Collectors must bear in mind that many of the high grade coins known are locked away in famous collections, and that an offering such as this will likely not occur again anytime soon."
