1805 C-1 R2- Possibly Broadstruck.
<Our item number 136028>1805 C-1 R2- Possibly Broadstruck. AU-55. Lustrous chocolate and steel. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is consistent with a mint state example. The only marks are a tiny rim nick under the tip of the bust and another on the rim over the first S in STATES. MDS. The strike on this example is significantly different than usually seen as the rims are wide and flat giving this piece the look of a broadstruck mint error. This cataloger has seen similar strikes on a few 1805 and 1806 half cents, but the exact cause of the wide, flat rims is uncertain. The lack of a properly fitting striking collar is an obvious guess, but tight collars were not introduced until much later. What is certain is the odd appearance of these pieces and the great eye appeal of this example. The reverse is rotated 20 degrees CW.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
Ex Bill Weber, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/3/2002:2325-Chris McCawley FPL #71, 9/10/02.

Our item numb er 136028
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
