1805 50C XF45 PCGS. O-111, R.2. The workhorse Obverse 7 die is paired here with a single-usage reverse. This reverse has several distinguishing characteristics, but the most immediately obvious are a couple of tiny die chips above the longest arrow.
Both sides have heavy clash marks, particularly above Liberty's bust and through the hair curls, from the horizontal shield lines. The reverse is faintly cracked through ES OF AMERICA, and faintly continues to the tail feathers.
This is a pleasing piece with considerable luster, sharp design details, and excellent eye appeal. Both sides have light silver surfaces with peripheral blue, rose, and gold toning. A few light surfaces marks on each side are entirely trivial.
Apparently quite a few examples of this variety were set aside in or shortly after the year of issue. The finest examples known of O-111 range from AU53 to MS60.
Haseltine-10; Beistle 5a-G; Overton-19; PCGS# 39285; Encyclopedia-4578.
Ex: Robert Zornes.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
