1805 50C AU58 PCGS. O-104, Low R.5. Of the three Wide Date 1805 halves, this is a close second in rarity to the O-105. At the time of the publication of Breen's Encyclopedia, he considered the 104 the scarcest.
The obverse has a series of die cracks that join the date, all of the stars on both sides, and all of LIBERTY, but this piece still represents an early die state with no evidence of retained cuds or rim breaks. The reverse is cracked through UN, TATES, and ERICA, this last crack almost reaches the tail feathers.
The surfaces have nearly full luster with traces of wear only on the highest points. Both sides have pleasing grayish-gold color with amber, blue, and iridescent toning near the borders.
Haseltine-7; Not in Beistle; Overton-10; PCGS# 39275; Encyclopedia-4581.
Ex: Harry Laibstain (10/2001).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
