1804<1/2 C> Spiked Chin. C-6, B-6, R.2. Die State 1. AU55 NGC. VF35 EAC. Braig Die State 1.2. Spiked Chin; Wide fraction, low numerator. This offering of 1804 Cohen-6 Half Cents from the Reiver Collection includes 11 different die states. In the May 1990 issue of Penny-Wise, Half Cent specialist Gene Braig presented an illustrated article describing die states of this variety. He gave text descriptions of 44 die states, and illustrated 19 of these with line drawings of the cracks and breaks. Later, Manley described 20 die states, and illustrated all 20 with actual photographs. For each of the following, we have provided both Braig and Manley Die States.
Die cracks encircle nearly all of the reverse lettering, but the tops of all letters remain complete and boldly defined. This example falls just short of an exact match for Braig Die State 1.2. A faint die crack is visible from the first 0 to the second in the denominator, but there is no evidence of the continuation of this crack from the second 0 to the rim. Attractive olive-brown surfaces with some traces of later reddish color. The obverse is moderately abraded and the reverse is lightly abraded.
Ex: Charles Adkins (12/17/1990). Envelope Included.
