Sharpness VF35 or slightly better with microscopic roughness covering both sides, the roughness so fine it does not show to the unaided eye. There are some contact marks, including a dull scratch hidden in the hair left of the earlobe and a dull but rather strong scrape on the rim over ICA. Slightly glossy dark olive and steel. The ANACS label mentions this half cent was struck "on spoiled planchet," but the undertype is actually an obverse brockage strike of this same die pair. The incuse brockage impression is on the reverse of the normal strike, with the incuse LIBERTY retrograde under UN and the fraction. The obverse is double struck with a slight, perhaps 5 degree, clockwise rotation between the impressions. The undertype is clearest along the forehead, chin, and field at the bust, but a careful examination reveals much more evidence of the initial strike. A sharp example of this rare die variety, and a neat mint error as well. EDS, Manley state 1.0. The Spiked Chin feature is strong. EAC grade net F15.
