1804 C-13 R1 Plain 4 without Stems VG7
1804 C-13 R1 Plain 4 without Stems VG7. Triple Struck, Reverse Brockage Maker. Sharpness near VF20 but there is a deep, obvious repair in the field under the hair ribbon where some defect was crudely smoothed away. Otherwise the surfaces are nice and the only mark is a pinch on the rim right of the tip of the nose. Glossy chocolate brown with shades of reddish brown on both sides. Triple struck with all three strikes centered on the planchet. One of the strikes was rotated at least 15 degrees relative to another and a third was shifted only slightly leaving fine doubling on the date and many of the devices on both sides. Ms Liberty has two faces and the top of the 4 from the date shows on the bottom of the bust. The reverse shows only the doubling from the minor shift, and it is wavy which suggests it was a brockage maker, most likely during the final strike. A dramatic error visible without the aid of a glass, at least on the obverse.
Estimated Value $150-UP.
