1804 Bust Quarter AG3
Quarter Dollars 1804 Browning-1. About Good 3. The planchet is bent slightly. Patches of wear extend inward from the rim on both sides, though most of the stars and lettering are complete. All digits of the date are sharp, albeit worn slightly at the bases of 180. Natural silver-gray luster prevails, with dark gray toning evident within protected areas around the lettering and devices. Miss Liberty and the eagle are both well detailed. This date represents the first Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle motif and only the second twenty-five cent emission from the recently established Philadelphia Mint. Mintage was a scant 6,738 pieces, a figure close in number to the highly coveted first year of issue 1796, struck using a Small Eagle reverse. The date 1804 has always held special fascination to collectors due to its relationship with the famous silver dollar rarity of the same date. And in fact, except for the half cent, all coinage struck during the year boasts low mintages and are of special significance today. The offered example is more than a mere "filler." It is a worthy addition to any date set of early quarters, as well as, marvelous example of historically significant numismatic Americana.
Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
