<B>1804<$5> Small 8--Plugged, Tooled, Damaged, Cleaned--ANACS. XF Details, Net VF20.</B></I> Small Date, Breen-6443, BD-3, R.5. Holed and plugged at 12 o'clock on the obverse, which has obliterated the L in LIBERTY. On the reverse, the tips of the arrows were partly re-engraved, as was the U of UNITED, and the right horizontal shield lines have been "assisted" at the right border. These characteristics account for the ANACS description of Plugged and Tooled. There is no doubt the coin has been cleaned, which has left the mustard-gold surfaces unnaturally reflective, but the additional problem that triggered the Damaged description is not readily apparent. A difficult issue, and any example is prized.
