1804<$10> Crosslet 4 AU55 NGC. Breen-6847, B. 1-A, Taraszka-31, R.4. The final year of the type, the 1804 is rarer than its 3,757 mintage figure suggests. It is estimated that a little over 1% of the two deliveries (December 28 and 31, 1804) have survived. NGC and PCGS have, to date, certified around 81 specimens, several of which are likely resubmissions.
This Choice AU example displays bright, yellow-gold surfaces that retain luster in some of the recessed areas. The design elements are well centered on the planchet, and the obverse dentilation is bold, while that on the reverse is a trifle less so. With the exception of minor softness in Liberty's eye and mouth, her features are nicely brought up, much more so than is typical for this issue. The date is bold, and most of the star centers are strong. The reverse elements are generally well defined, though some softness is apparent on the eagle's neck and right (left facing) claw and adjacent arrow shafts, and on the upper right (facing) part of the shield and adjacent feathers. A few wispy slide marks are noted on the obverse, and light mint-made vertical adjustment marks are visible on the cap.
