1804 $10 Crosslet 4 AU50 PCGS. Breen-6847, Taraszka-31, BD-1, High R.4. A single die pair was employed for the entire production of 1804 eagles, 3,757 coins per Mint records, but more likely in the range of 2,500 to 3,000 coins actually bearing the date. Die state evidence proves that 1803 BD-6 was coined after all 1804 eagles. Other 1803 eagles may also be products of the 1804 coinage.
Cracked from the base of 180 to stars 1 through 5, later than the latest die state recorded by Dannreuther or by Taraszka. The obverse also has cracks from stars 11 to 13 and the bust tip, through the field above 180, joining stars 5 and 6, and through the field over stars 5, 6, and 7. The reverse is also later than the latest state known to Taraszka or Dannreuther. In fact, nearly all of the reverse cracks identified by Taraszka for 1803 BD-6 are present on this piece. Light greenish yellow-gold surfaces with numerous light adjustment marks.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
