1804<1/2 C> Spiked Chin. C-8, B-7, R.1. Die State 6. AU50 NGC. VF25 EAC. Spiked Chin; Close fraction, ridge at R. Apparently the latest die state known, and similar to that in the next lot. Breen recorded two later die states, but no examples of either are known to specialists today. A retained cud extends from the left edge of the upright of L to the extreme left serif of R, but it does not encroach on that letter. Breen had described this as a rim break, although the existence of the raised ridge forming the rim above these letters is the defining aspect of a retained cud and not a full break in this area. Lovely chestnut and light brown surfaces with only the typical minor abrasions encountered for the grade. Jules recorded that this example is from the 1990 EAC Sale, lot 45, but it is actually from the 1991 EAC Sale.
