1804<1/2 C> Spiked Chin. C-7, B-5, R.4. Die State 2.5--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. Fine Details. VG10 EAC. Spiked Chin; Triplet below F. Perhaps 120 examples of this variety are known in various states of the reverse die, ranging from perfect to severely broken, although not nearly like the Cohen-6 die marriage. This example is from an earlier die state with a crack through the top of F in OF, reaching the border over the first A in AMERICA. Another faint crack through the tops of ME is nearly invisible on this example. About half of the known population are from the early die states, without any rim breaks on the reverse. The other half are late state coins such as that in the next lot, with various stages of rim breaks on the reverse. Dark steel surfaces are intermingled with splashes of lighter tan, more noticeable on the reverse. The surfaces are microscopically granular and present a few minor old scratches, but there are no serious imperfections on either side. The spike from Liberty's chin is weak but visible.
