1803 S-263 R3 Small Date and Fraction VF30Glossy chocolate brown and steel. The obverse is especially glossy due to a thin coating of lacquer or some similar protectant; the reverse is slightly dull from extremely faint granularity. Sharply detailed with just a light touch of wear on the devices. No verdigris but there are some marks. There is a scuff on the rim at LIB, dull, light vertical scratch through the eye, and a few tiny spots of roughness on the neck. M-LDS, Breen state VI, with a strong cud break under the date and a crack from the 3 through the bust to the dentils opposite the chin. Struck with the obverse die slightly misaligned to K-9. Graded EF40 and tied for CC#8 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 net VF35 and tied for CC#6, his photo #26124. An attractive but imperfect cent that comes with a nice provenance.Certificate Number: Pedigree: Ex C. Douglas Smith-Robert J. Kissner, Stack's 6/1975:383-Jeffery M. Peck 5/26/1976-Dr. Robert J.
