Sharpness closer to mint state but there is a shallow planchet lamination at the rim from under the fraction to the adjacent U in UNITED and another faint one at the jaw (as struck). Otherwise the only notable defect is a small spot of fine reddish verdigris on the E in CENT. Frosty tan and light brown with light chocolate toning on the highpoints. EDS, Breen state I, with clashmarks but no cracks. This cent was struck two times. The first strike was normal and centered on the planchet. The second strike was 95% off center creating a "tab" over LIBE and left of the fraction. Both sides of the tab show dentils from the second impact. A very nice example of an interesting mint error. Graded AU55 and tied for CC#4 honors with the ANS example in the Noyes census, his photo #27931. And it comes with a nice provenance.Ex Dr. George P. French, B.
