1803 H10C Large 8 XF45 PCGS. V-2, LM-3, R.3. This is a remarkably problem-free coin for an early U.S. silver issue. There are no outwardly noticeable abrasions, and even a loupe fails to reveal many distracting handling marks. Whereas the obverse is overlaid in somewhat mottled steel-gray hues, the reverse is bright and essentially untoned. Boldly struck from a not quite perfectly centered impression that has resulted in a few missing denticles here and there. A faint, barely perceptible lamination (as struck) is seen in the upper left obverse field, and there is also an as made planchet depression over the lower reverse. V-2 is the most common of the three known die marriages of the 1803 Half Dime (37,850 pieces produced) but Logan and McCloskey (1998) opine that survivors are "difficult to obtain in grades above VF." Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
