1803 H10C Large 8 XF45 PCGS. LM-3, V-2, R.3. Three die varieties are known for the coinage of 1803 half dimes, and these three combinations were utilized for the production of 37,850 coins. That quantity is the reported mintage for the year, and it is reasonable to assume that all of those coins were actually dated 1803. Unlike other denominations, the actual number of coins produced in a given year seems to be the same as the mintage bearing each date.
This is an excellent example of the 1803 half dime coinage. The obverse has medium steel-blue toning intermingled with lighter gray color. The reverse is entirely bright silvery-gray with a faint trace of blue color near the border. Both sides have a few minor abrasions and faint scratches, typical of these coins. A semi-circular depression near the lower reverse appears to be the result of some type of pre-striking planchet flaw. Lot:6103
