1803 C-3 R2 VG7
1803 C-3 R2 VG7. Double Struck 95% off Center with 2 Dates. A few points sharper but the initials "H A" are scratched into the field behind the portrait. Otherwise this piece is smooth with only trivial contact marks consistent with the grade. Glossy steel brown and chocolate. LDS, Manley state 5.0, with bulging at the shoulder and serious weakness in the wreath under STAT. The reverse is rotated 45 degrees CW. What makes this piece special is that it was double struck in a dramatic fashion. The first strike was centered on the planchet and the second was 95% off center to K-11 leaving "180" and the bottom half of the "3" of the date boldly impressed over LIBE. The tops of ST (of STATES) from the second strike shows at the opposing area just right of the fraction. A very impressive mint error that does not demand a magnifying glass to enjoy.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
