1803 C-2 R4 F12+
1803 C-2 R4 F12+. Sharpness VF30 but covered with fine roughness under a glossy chocolate brown patina. No marks or verdigris. Sharply struck MDS, Manley state 4.0, with an incomplete cud break above TAT in STATES. The part above TA is retained but fully raised while the section above the second T is only partially raised. Manley says this die state is "possibly unique," and we do not know of another. This die state was not known to Breen when he wrote his half cent encyclopedia. Obviously this is a very important piece for the specialist.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Provenance: Ex Corrado Romano collection, Stack's 6/16/1987:118 (lot ticket included).
