Framed and matted ALS. Dateline State of Tennessee July 5th, 1803. Message from Jackson about John Caffery coming before him and pledging an oath that his petition was true. Frame is approx. 10 x 19" with oval illustration of Jackson. Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) was the seventh president of the United States (1829-1837), known for his populist appeal, military leadership, and role in shaping the modern Democratic Party. A hero of the War of 1812, particularly for his victory at the Battle of New Orleans, he built a national reputation as a tough and decisive leader. Before his presidency, Jackson served briefly as a U.S. senator and from 1804 to 1809 as a judge on the Tennessee superior court, where he was noted for his firmness and practicality in rulings. His presidency was marked by controversial policies, including the Indian Removal Act, opposition to the national bank, and an assertive use of executive power. Deeply polarizing, Jackson left a lasting legacy as both a champion of the "common man" and a figure tied to some of the nation's most contentious policies.
