1803 1C Small Date, Small Fraction Fair 2 ANACS.
<B>1803<1C> Large Date, Small Fraction Fair 2 ANACS.</B></I> S-264, B-24, R.5. Die State III. This is an example of the rare Large Date, Small Fraction variety. The 1 in the date is pointed, the numerals are large, the 1 nearly touches the hair curl, and the 3 touches the bust. The reverse wreath has berries arranged 6-5. Late die state, retained cud over STA that obliterates those letters and the dentilation above; the cud is no longer coplanar with the rest of the reverse. Extensive obverse wear has effaced all but the date, which is quite plain, and the central device. Most of LIBERTY is illegible. The reverse is much clearer, with TED, TES, and AMERICA plain, as well as the central legend. The fraction has disappeared, but the berry arrangement and retained cud make attribution of this rare variety unmistakable. There are no mentionable planchet defects or abrasions, just extensive wear. EAC 2.
