<B>1803 1C Large Date, Small Fraction--Corroded--NCS. Fine Details.</B></I> S-264, B-24, High R.4. A nicely detailed deep gray-brown piece with moderately granular surfaces. The margins exhibit slightly greater porosity. The die breaks near the base of the neck, and on the upper reverse are usual for this challenging Sheldon variety. The break across the upper left reverse is sufficiently significant to weaken the STA in STATES. Although 1803 provides numerous Small Date, Small Fraction varieties, The Large Date varieties are comparatively rare. These consist of S-264, with a Small Fraction, and S-265, with a Large Fraction. As the only Large Date, Small Fraction variety, S-264 receives its own <I>Guide Book</B></I> listing, and is desirable even in lower grades.
