Large Cents 1802 S-235 R3+ MS60+. Choice glossy tan with light steel brown highpoints and traces of golden tan faded down from mint color in protected areas. There is a small spot of darker steel toning at the leaftip just right of the F in OF, another at the tip of the left ribbon end, and a speck of reddish verdigris just right of the numerator in the fraction. There are a few microscopic ticks on the jaw and neck, none notable. MDS, Breen state III. The obverse is sharply struck with smooth, hard fields and every detail crisp. The reverse is nicely struck but has some weakness in the leaves under T in CENT due to blunting from die clashing. Called MS62 and CC#2 by Bland. Noyes lists this piece as MS60, also CC#2. This is the plate coin in the Breen book. A very attractive cent, especially the obverse. Ex Charles J. Dupont, Stack's 9/54:385-Harold Bareford, 9/13/85-Herman Halpern- C.
