1802 Large Cent S-228 MS63
Large Cents 1802 S-228 R2 MS63. Error Fraction 1/000. Choice lustrous light steel brown with peeps of frosty tan faded down from mint color in protected areas of the obverse. Virtually flawless. The only identifying marks are two tiny ticks on the back edge of the shoulder over the 8. The surfaces are covered with satiny mint frost, even the highpoints. E-MDS, Breen state II, with slight die rust and scaling covering most of the obverse. Plated in the new Breen book (and that photo doesn't come close to doing this cent justice). A truly outstanding example of this popular die-cutter's error variety. Called MS61 and tied for CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS65 and choice, tied for finest known honors. The midpoint seems fair. Ex Thomas E. Werner-Garry Fitzgerald 1/9/72-C. Douglas Smith-Dr. Robert A. Schuman.
Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
